Smyrna Baptist Church Cemetery
In the midst of pandemic and sheltering in place, maintenance of the Smyrna Cemetery continues. Grass still grows and mowing has been underway for a couple of months. We’ve purchased a new mower to make sure that can still happen! We’ve also installed a new dumpster on a concrete pad to make emptying much easier. Because of the state guidelines, we weren’t in church to receive the annual Mother’s Day offering as we normally do. Needless to say, the cemetery fund is pretty low right now.
The cemetery fund consists of your donations, special offerings received at the church, and proceeds from the sale of lots. All cemetery money is kept separate from church funds and is used only for cemetery purposes. To date, this fund has allowed us to keep the cemetery looking good. Additional money can always be put to good use and we still look to the day that a true perpetual care fund can be established.
While the original part of the cemetery was donated by Rev. J.F. Davis many years ago, a new section owned by the church is now in use. Lots are available to those who have a family or church affiliation with the cemetery at a cost of $400 each, all of which goes back into the cemetery fund. We request that no fences or walls be erected, that foot markers be level with the ground, and that there be no shrubs, bushes or trees planted to make maintenance a bit easier. There are few lots available in the old section.
All donations are greatly appreciated and should be sent to the above address. You can also help us by sharing this letter with other members of your family or sending us addresses so that we can contact them. Many, many thanks for your assistance.
