As I drove home from Atlanta on Wednesday, I passed through the Adairsville area. It was heartbreaking to see the destruction caused by the storms that passed through Bartow and Gordon counties. I have heard and seen many homes and businesses that were destroyed by these terrible storms. But I also thought about another reality: God's protective hand.
First, I do not wish to downplay the damage that has been done. At least one life has been lost and several others injured. And I have never had to rebuild from the ground up, so I don't know what that is like. However, in the midst of all this, I had the unique "opportunity" to be in contact with people in two of the schools in these towns. As I later saw pictures and video of the twister, I saw how closely it passed by at least 4 schools filled with students. My mind drifted back to Ringgold in 2011 and the destuction of the school there as the storm passed at midnight. In one, an empty school was destroyed and in the other, several full schools were spared. While the destruction is real for those involved, let us thank God for His protective hand. Also, let us continue to pray for the Adairsville and Sonoraville communities as they rebuild.
